Anthony,The Nokia is easier for me to navigate. Also although it’s smaller I can see the icons better. Also on the Nokia it is easier to figure out the options. That could be because it is in color, and the contrast on the iLiad isn’t that great to me. Maybe I needed more light in the room. Both Nokias (770 and 800) are very portable and you can’t beat backlighting. I think that if you want a reader, why pay $700 to use FBreader? For a $140 you got a pretty good reader. For daylight and large screen the iliad is great, but then again you could always get a Sony reader (only 6? versus iLiad’s 8.1?) and still have money in your wallet. Also the Sony is easier to carry with you since it’s alot smaller than the iLiad. All in all, I love the Nokia as a reading device. I keep wondering what took me so long to get one.
Ellen

Hi Ellen, Thank you for this site. I find it very useful. At the moment I’m using an Acer n35 to mainly read mobipocket books. I’ve been looking for a dedicated reader and was seriously thinking of getting an iLiad, however after reading your first impressions I think I’ll wait until the new Cybook comes out. I really need something with a better battery life than the Acer and the iLiad does’nt seem much better. Thanks again for an interesting and useful site.
Regards,
Bill

Bill,

Thanks for the kind words. I think that you will be pleased with the Cybook. I really think that it will be a better device for reading and much cheaper. Hopefully the iLiad will come down in price and the next firmware upgrades will make it a better device. Too bad we can't just go to a store and see these readers (with the exception of the Sony reader). I have decided to let my iLiad sit a bit and come back to it. I hope I change my mind.

Re Sudoku

Yes I have have seen this and I bought a handheld version of the game. I am still figuring it out. It is harder than Sudoku and I am really just a novice at that.

Hi Helen,
concerning the "cons" side of the low contrast, I was a bit surprised: I believed that the current Eink devices all shared a practically identical technology (until the arrival of Vizplex) - yet you say you love your Sony, so it must be higher contrast, right?
I'm trying to decide which Eink device to buy, and contrast is paramount for me.
Do you know about some good online comparison?

Thanks!

How do you think the iliad compares with the nokia? Which is easier to read books in?

I quite like FBReader. I read quite a few work related documents (word saved as .htm) or books with it. Great device for the price. What do you think?
