My Citrus Micro Ordeal
Back in September I had pre-ordered an Eee PC from Citrus Micro (CM). I picked them because I didn’t have to make a non-refundable deposit. That should have been my first clue. I bought the notebook from New Egg since they were the first with the device in stock and I couldn’t wait. Then my daughter wanted one so I left my pre-order with CM opened. When she sent me her half of the money, something told me that I should buy from New Egg, but I was feeling the small guy business trying to make it, so when their representative called me, I decided to go ahead with CM against my intuition. I was told that the Eee PCs would be in that week and sent out no later than 3 days later. Well that was Nov 7th. Today is the 20th. In the meantime, I have been following the conversation over at Eeeuser.com forum. That was my second clue. I got a bad feeling that I was being taken for ride. So I called and basically got smoke blown up my skirt. The rep even went so far as to say that New Egg really didn’t have any on stock. He said no one did. He then went on to tell me that in order to get Asus to send the device, it had to be paid for. So when I tried to pin down a time frame the answer was that he didn’t know. Yet I couldn’t cancel my order, hmm—. That was the final clue. Then Best Buy after reporting a two week wait got theirs in and people had already started to receive their purchase. On top of that New Egg ran out earlier this week, but they already have them back in stock. I have not received one word from CM. There have been no updates to me via email or on their site. I called my credit card company and let them know my situation and they have taken the charge off of my card. I then went back to New Egg and ordered. I thought that businesses could not place a charge on a card until the item shipped. A quick glance on Eeeuser.com forums shows that I am not alone. I tried today to get in touch with the rep I had talked to before, but now no one is available. There’s not even a voicemail option. This is bad and it seems as though CM thinks I am dumb enough to keep accepting their lies. I know that some people at the beginning did receive their purchase. That doesn’t make me feel better. I not only didn’t get mine, but I have no explanation, have been made to feel as though I am powerless to do anything about it, and most important I have disappointed my daughter. Yes, I am really upset.

At least you used a credit card and can get your money back. Pity the poor buyers who used PayPal and may never see their hard earned cash again.
Doesn’t PayPal offer a way to dispute payments also?
Are you saying that Citrus Micro scammed you? Put the word “scam” in this post, and it should rank fairly highly for “citrus micro scam” in Google, which can raise awareness of the issue.
PayPal does offer a way to dispute payments. However, you don’t have the same rights as you do under the law with a credit card. We’ve been ripped off using PayPal before — a guy never sent the item we paid for and then emptied his PayPal account. We “won” but there was no money for PayPal to return to us. Sorry Charlie.
@ all
This whole CM thing is tragic. I read just yesterday that people (those after the initial shipment) still haven’t received their devices. There must be something that can be done.

Actually, this week has shown some improvement. Some CC and PayPal buyers were able to get refunds from CM (by disputing the charges) and have bought & received Eee PCs elsewhere. Others have finally received shipping notices from Citrus Micro. Hopefully they will post good news soon.
I hope you’ll post any updates, should Kellen change his mind and decide he likes the tiny Eee. It’s great to have a kid’s eye view of new technology.
